VII. Quadrangle Archway – Gifts of $500-$649
(John Comes, 1921; renovated 1994) The Quadrangle Archway serves as a picturesque gateway to the inner mall of campus from the Abbey Church. Constructed with Benet Hall to connect the residence to the Quad, it helps make the newly renovated Benet Hall one of the most convenient residences on campus, especially on cold winter days.
VIII. Art Center – Gifts of $650-$799
(Hugh Newell Jacobson and Associates, 1989) The Art Center contains the Alice R. Rogers and Dayton Hudson Art Galleries—the sites of numerous exhibits each year—a lecture hall, a bronze-casting foundry, studios for faculty and senior art majors, and classrooms with equipment for drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and print-making.
IX. Butcher Shop – Gifts of $800-$999
(Gregory Steil OSB, 1878; renovated 1941 & 1981; on National Historic Register) Originally built as the butcher shop for Saint John’s in the era when the campus was virtually self-sufficient, this building has worn many hats, including that of campus pub from 1981 – 1993. It is now the campus electricians’ shop.
