Don Hall accepts SJU Alumni Achievement Award at Homecoming 2009

Don Hall (left) was recognized for his successful professional career and myriad volunteer commitments in accepting the SJU Alumni Achievement Award at Homecoming and the Class of 1959 reunion on Oct. 3. With him are Fr. Bob Koopmann, OSB (center), SJU president, and Tom Daly, class agent. Hall's citation read:
For your successful career in the finance and investments arena. For providing support and sharing your professional acumen in service to a number of organizations ranging from Common Hope in Guatemala and the archdiocese to your parish and the Minneapolis League of Women Voters.
For your loyalty to Saint John’s exhibited in the renovation of Stella Maris Chapel that you championed and in helping to establish the Cyril Paul Scholarship to support Caribbean students at Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict.
For the keen reflections on growing up that you captured so capably in your book A Man Learns. For being a man of faith and family.
We, the Board of Directors of the Saint John’s University Alumni Association, with congratulations and admiration and in the presence of your classmates, present to you Don Hall, Class of 1959, The Alumni Achievement Award, October 3, 2009.

Hi fellow Johnnies.
Recently I attended a Johnnie "Standup" for the SJU alums who live in Woodbury. There are about 170 of us. It was interesting in that I was the second oldest member there. The oldest was Tom Wollner '58 who was a member of the Rochester Lourdes basketball team that my team (Wabasso St Annes) played against in 1954. Tom and his wife are good friends with Ralph Costello who was the St. Anne’s coach!
As the second oldest alum there I received a gift of the book ST JOHN'S AT 150, which I enjoy. Get yourself a copy if you haven't seen it.
In addition to the social agenda there was some talk … of Homecoming. Our 50th is next year and I am looking forward to seeing you there.
The campus has changed a lot but not in my mind's eye. I still think of it as it was when we were there. I suspect some of you have been back more times than I have. I did spend a day there last fall and have been back through the years on occasion.
Let me hear from you some time. Best wishes!

Stay up-to-date with Saint John’s!
A conference call was recently held for all class agents and committee members for an update on Saint John’s. Click here to see the notes from the call.
What is a Class Committee?
Class Committe members are volunteers from each class who gather to enjoy the kind of camaraderie that only Johnnies can share. They work together to connect other classmates to Saint John's and to each other.
So How Can I Get Involved?
If you'd like to be involved with our class committee, please contact Thom Woodward at twoodward@csbsju.edu or 320.363.2586. Over the coming year, our class will be working on supporting the Four Cornerstones of the Alumni Association:
- Student Recruitment: Asking classmates to refer potential students to the CSB/SJU Admission Office. (To do this, visit the Online Referral Page.)
- Student Preparation: Helping prepare current Johnnies for life after graduation through job placement, internships, and mentoring.
- Alumni Connections: Enriching the lives of 20,000 alumni and engaging them in support of the Saint John's community, as well as reconnecting them in the online community or at SJU events.
- Resource Development: Helping address the financial needs of the SJU community by supporting the Annual Fund or Capital Campaign.
We'd love to see you get involved, so please contact Thom Woodward today. The Class Committee is a great way to get reconnected to Saint John's or to strengthen the connections that you already have.
