The Des Moines Alumni Chapter was officially recognized for their service to Saint John's on November 19 at a Johnnie Standup. Troy Fritz '88 and former Alumni Board President, Bernie Tuohy '72, presented the chapter with their charter. Get connected and stay connected!

Chamber Choir Coming to Iowa

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University Chamber Choir is coming to the Des Moines Metro, and Johnnie and Bennie hospitality is needed!

The Chamber Choir will give a concert at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale as part of their Spring 2010 Concert Tour. Under the direction of Dr. Axel Theimer, a native of Austria, former member of the Vienna Boy's Choir and music faculty member at Saint John's University and the College of Saint Benedict since 1969, the 50 member choir will perform a wide variety of sacred and secular music, ranging from polyphony of the Renaissance to masterworks of the 20th century.

Help Host the Choir!

Central Iowa Johnnie and Bennie alums have an opportunity to extend hospitality to the choir while they are in our area. We will provide the choir with a light dinner, casual reception and housing for the evening. Please let us know if you're interested in helping with any of the following:

Light Dinner:  At 5:00 pm on Friday we'll serve a main dish, sides, dessert and beverages. Email Curtis Brown if you would like to provide a part of the dinner.

Casual Reception:  After the concert, ther will be a coffee and dessert reception. Please email Curtis Brown if you would like to provide a dozen cookies or bars for the reception.

The singers need housing for the evening. Host families will meet their singer guests after the concert and bring them back to St. Pius on Saturday morning at about 9:00. We need housing for men and women singers in groups of two, three or singles. Please email Doug Sturm-Smith if you're interested in hosting.

The Des Moines Chapter of the Saint John's Alumni Association supports and promotes Saint John's University in the greater Des Moines and Central Iowa area. The Chapter benefits its members, the University, and the community by: 

• Providing fellowship and social opportunities for alumni.
• Serving the University through various activities such as Student Recruitment, Student Preparation, and Resource Development.
• Carrying out the Benedictine values of community, stewardship, service, and hospitality in our local community.
