Johnnies in the Great Outdoors: Canada Fishing Trip to Big Narrows

On August 26 six Johnnie Alums packed up their fishing rods and warm clothes, and headed north.  They traveled until they reached the wilderness of Canada and Big Narrows Resort located on Lake of the Woods.  This is, coincidently, the best fishing that Canada has to offer. Big Narrows Resort is owned by Charlie Ehlen '60 grad.

Charlie Cammack ’54, Mark LaLiberte ’84, Len Mrachek ’58, Neal Olson ’58, Thomas Wollner ’58 and Jon Ruis ’96 were attendees of the fishing trip.

Lake of the Woods is abundant in walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and of course, muskie. Trophy fishing waters await any guest not far from camp. The camp sits in the last great untouched region of Lake of the Woods, with plenty of distance between camp and Kenora to the north and the Northwest Angle to the south.

Big Narrows is only accessible by boat.  Boat Transportation to the resort originates from Young's Bay Resort at the Northwest Angle in Minnesota. This trip runs from August 26 to August 30, but the men could have added more days if they so desired. The fishing trip is limited to 15 men, so make sure to register early next year.

The trip included commodities of a modern cabin with private bath, three full meals a day, use of boats and filleting, scenic and picturesque landscapes, and of course, plenty of Jonnie camaraderie.
